Pragmatic Boom City Live is an exciting entertainment game show from Pragmatic Play, with a game mechanic we’ve not seen before in this type of game.
Unlike entertainment game shows that use big wheels, Boom City Live uses a 6 x 6 grid containing 36 squares and two physical dice to drive the outcome of the game rounds.
Boom City has several different game scenarios, including three decision-based bonus games. The Power Up feature can boost wins up to 20,000x.
Boom City Live is a unique, colourful, fun and highly playable game that can deliver massive multipliers if the dice land nicely.
In this review, I’ll explain how to play Boom City live, discuss betting strategies, and show you the bonus rounds in action in my video review.

Boom City Live is a new style of live entertainment game show. It uses a grid of 36 squares in rows of six stacked on each other. Two coloured dice determine the winning square. The Gold dice select the vertical column 1-6, and the Blue dice the horizontal column between 1 and 6. Where the two intersect is the winning square.
The grid contains prize squares, bonus round squares, bust squares and power-up squares. Unusually, there is no fixed number for each square type, so a different combination of prize squares makes up the grid in each game round.
The game is in two phases. Phase one is the main game where you place bets on the square you think will be chosen after rolling two dice.
Boom City Live is a game to be enjoyed. Let’s examine some ways you can bet on Boom City Live.
I honestly don’t know why you’d play a game like Boom City live and only play the numbers. But, I think it’s worth seeing what a betting strategy for numbers would look like and the likely outcome.
Let’s look at some statistics for these bets, which have a payout of 1x, 2x and 5x.
Using the statistics above, we structure the bets to make a profit from the most probable colour, which is Bronze and some return for colours Silver and Gold.
Let’s use ten units as our wager. Place six units on Bronze- we return 12 units for a win, two units on Silver – we return 4 and 2 units on Gold; we break even with ten.
This strategy will slowly eat your bankroll. The only chance you have for winning big is with the Power-Ups. My experience is this strategy will fail over the long term, so you should avoid it.
There are two betting strategies for combining coloured and bonus squares. I aim to maintain my bankroll for as long as possible. In some game rounds, you’ll win, and in others, you won’t. We want to ensure we haven’t depleted our bankroll before we hit a decent bonus round.
You place a bet on all squares. Either place the same wager on all bet spots or put more on the Bronze bet spot as that is most likely to win. Distribute the rest of your bets across the other betting positions. Please ensure the amount on number one will cover the whole wager when it wins. This tactic reduces the number of times your bank reduces with each bet. An example bet would be – 5 units on Bronze, one unit each on Silver, Gold, Dice Battle, Lucky Drop and Boom or Bust. The total bet is 10. If Bronze wins, you get back 10. Increase this bet if you want a profit.
This method reduces the initial outlay, but you should still use the same approach. Stack the most bet on Bronze and the rest across the bonus rounds. An example bet would be five units on Bronze and one on each of the three bonus rounds, making a total bet of 8. If Bronze wins, you earn 10, a profit of two. This approach is my favoured betting strategy.
I include this as some players will want to bet on just the bonuses. It is a higher-risk strategy but can pay off if you get a run of Bonus rounds. Place as much as you like across these three-bet spots. My advice is no more than 10% of your bankroll.
Each Boom City bonus round has its playing strategies, so let’s take a quick look at these.
You have to choose which dice to select, the Gold or the Blue. Remember, past results are no indication of what will happen in the future.
The strategy for Dice Battle is “Gut Feeling”. Pick one side and hope that it wins.
Lucky Drop is another bonus round where the strategy is the luck of the draw. You need to pick one number from one to six.
If it were the total of two dice, it would be easier, as some are more common than others when two dice a rolled. But with one number, the probability is the same. Please choose any of them.
Again, go with your gut.
This bonus round stars by setting a safe Multiplier, so whatever happens, you’ll get this paid if you bust out. The strategy in this game is to know when to take the Cash-Out offer.
The only other strategy is no strategy and just let the game round play out and see what happens. The best-case scenario will be getting to the last row and bagging a big multiplier. The worst case is getting the safe multiplier.
I advise looking at the multiplier value for the next row and judging whether it8217;s worth risking what you have to get to the next level.
The game’s developers have been clever because the jump between some of the rows is small, I mean less than 10x difference. That could tempt you to take the Cash Out offer, but if you do, you may miss out on the more significant wins later.
Be careful as you progress up the rows as the bust squares are more frequent, and you have a higher chance of busting out.
The overall RTP for Boom City is 96.21%, ranging between 93.49% – 96.21%). It fits pretty nicely in the sweet spot of other entertainment game shows, 94 to 97%.
The maximum payout for the game is 20,000x, but you will need consecutive Power-Ups before entering one of the Bonus rounds. The likelihood is slim, but anything is possible, so the maximum payout is £$€500,000.
The more normal range for payouts will be between 1x and 250x, with more frequent payouts in the 10x – 20x range.
Don’t be fooled into thinking this is an easy game to win. It’s not. It’s like all the other entertainment games. You’ll get some good wins but loads of average and small ones. Hopefully, these will be enough to keep your bankroll turning over.
My top Playing Tip is “Just enjoy playing the game”. Don’t try and force wins. Take part in every aspect and enjoy the outcome, whatever that may be.
The game is structured to have losses, both during the main game and the bonus rounds. Walking away with nothing is a horrible feeling, and you might experience that more playing this game than, say, Sweet Bonanza Candyland.
What is immediately apparent is it will attract both small and large bets.
The Boom City playing interface contains information on past results via two areas on the screen.
Results trackers and statistics are helpful to get a flavour of how the game plays.
They don’t help inform you what may happen next, as each event is standalone from the next, unlike a card game where you know the used cards and the ones left to play.
My advice when using the trackers and Stats is to view them with interest, be informed and make your decisions based on gut feelings.
Pragmatic has a knack for producing great-looking live entertainment game shows.
Boom City live looks sophisticated and, at first sight, a little complicated.
The biggest problem I had was understanding how the Power-Ups work. The concept is simple, but how it’s applied left me confused for quite a few game rounds. Please read the section on Power-Ups as I’ve done my best to explain it.
The bonus rounds are the best part of the game, in so much they keep you guessing, and there’s a good chance you could leave with nothing or a low payout if you don’t concentrate.
The content of the chat is a good indicator of the success of a game. To me, complaints of bad beats or fixing are a receipt for a great game show. It tells me it’s hit the sweet spot with players who will come back, again and again, to try and beat it and get the big multiplier payouts.
If you play sensibly, you can enjoy Boom City, and if you get lucky, you may walk away with a profit.
If nothing else, pop by and say “Hi” to the game presenters. They do a great job and are some of the friendliest around.

You can win, but you must be careful with how you play and take the cash-out offers when they come. You’re more likely to lose in the long term. Enjoy playing the game, celebrate, and withdraw your winnings quickly if you are lucky.
